"The way he played last year in the playoffs, I thought was pretty incredible. He proved he’s the best player on the team. He’s a guy that has earned the respect of his teammates and coaches. And I think that’s a big step. We're excited for him this year, he’s worked really hard this summer as well."
Again this has been his summer. He's finally taken this team over. It wasn't going to be given to him. So he took it, and now the success of the Celtics sits on his shoulders. He'll need a little help from his friends, and he understands that. I think I wanted a more heart felt response from Ainge about Rondo, but that's okay their will be more time for that as the season unfolds.
Doc also spoke about Rondo's growth.
"Yeah, I'm all for it. I'm all for it. He's gotten better and better, obviously, and now he's one of the better point guards in the league. I think what he wants to be is more consistent all the time, just a guy that is a dominant player every night. I think that's his next big step."
I agree with him wanting to be dominant every night. He should be that guy, and he is 90% of the time, but their are times where he sits back. I think he sits back because he's got other stars around him, and with one less mouth to feed. Rondo should be able to utilize guys more freely, and he should be able to do his own thing more often.
