The Celtics may have lost this game, but it doesn't matter. The Celtics learned a lot today, and we saw some great things today. First of all Rondo was amazing in the first quarter. He only played 30 minutes, and a lot of what they worked on after the first quarter didn't match the first.
Rondo was great from the foul line 6-of-6. He hit a last second three that gave the Celtics a 27-26 lead at the end of one. But when Rondo was taken out of the game. The Celtics lacked leadership at the point guard position. The Celtics did work out, and hopefully they can survive without a true backup this season.
Honestly the offensive seemed better without Ray in this preseason game. Don't let the 91 points fool you. Paul only played 26 minutes for 8 points, and KG only played 15 minutes for 6 points. This game wasn't about them. It was about Green, Terry, and Sullinger.
Those three showed us what we can get from them. The biggest surprise was Sullingers 16 points, and 8 rebounds in 26 minutes. Sullinger was catching tough passes by Rondo, and he was very active inside, and on the offensive glass. Great performance, and I don't care that it was only the preseason.
As for Terry, he was a great spark off the bench with 12 points, and he was 3-of-3 from three-point land.
The biggest story of the game had to be Green's will in the 4th quarter. The Celtics fell down by 12 points, but Jeff Green didn't let go. Green was getting any shot that he wanted. Scal during the game thought Green had a lot of James Worthy in his game, and that was a great comparison.
Green, and the Celtics fell short today, but a lot of good came from today's loss. The Celtics first of all had issues with pick-and-roll defense, and the Celtics fell victim to the same issue that plagued them in the final two games against Miami, poor defense on 3's.
Overall the Celtics had some great takeaways. I'll have more coverage later on.
