The Celtics needed a backup, after five preseason games it was obvious the Celtics needed a guy to spare Rondo some rest. Barbosa can play the two as well, and his role will be back up to Rondo. The good news is this. Barbosa can score the ball very well. His career average is 12.5 a game, and before he joined the Pacers last season. He was averaging 12.2 a game in Toronto. He ended with a scoring average of 11.1 last season. Barbosa can play some defense, but he's never played for a defensive coach. Look at his time in Phoenix under D'Antoni. So we don't know how well he can play defense. I'm sure under Doc, Barbosa will become a better defensive player.
Barbosa won the 6th man of the year award in 2007 scoring 18 a game. The Celtics now have two former 6th man of the year award winners on the bench. Terry being the other of course.Barbosa is a true steal. He made almost 8 million last season, and he'll play for the vet minimum in Boston. He can score better than Courtney Lee, but Lee can play better defense. The Celtics have another weapon, and it's starting to look like they shouldn't have any excuses this season to win banner 18. Barbosa is truly a low risk, high reward kind of player for Boston. Will he average 12 a game? Highly doubt it, but 6-8 points a game is all we need. With an occasional 15-20 point breakout game. So who are the Lakers, and Heat again? They may have the mega stars, but the Celtics have a mega star in Rondo, with Pierce, and KG, and with the a very deep bench.
Can Nash hang with Rondo, or Barbosa on defense? I don't think so. Can the Celtics throw a ton of bigs at Howard? Oh yeah, and can the Celtics put Bradley, and Lee on Kobe? Yes they can. A healthy Celtics team should win a title with this talent along side Rondo. No excuses.

This does sound good. But I think we need to have Rondo on the floor a lot, and with different configurations. I worry about Doc trying too hard to create the kind of first unit- second unit pattern that we've seen in the past. The way I see it, everyone should be an arrow in Rondo's quiver.
