For years, even before I started this blog. I've been preaching how I feel about players that are older. Other fans have picked on the Celtics for being old. With KG, and Pierce climbing the age ladder. My case has been answered. I would give examples like this to other fans. Jordan, and Jerry West won NBA titles at the age of 35, and Malone made it to a NBA finals at the age of 35, and Stockton at 36. The number goes on, and on about past NBA greats being very successful at the age of 34 and above. I'm not surprised that Pierce, and KG are still playing at very high level.
The only difference for Pierce, and KG is Rondo. Without him they can't carry this team to a NBA finals. They need Rondo, and in turn he needs them. It's a match made in heaven. But in conclusion the age of the duo in Boston isn't a problem. It's a problem because ESPN says so. But honestly NBA history has shown that guys that are 35 or older can win. Bill Russell won his last NBA title at 35.
"I think you've got to have it in you. I think you've got to have a certain competitiveness in you, to want it," Pierce said after practice Thursday. "A lot of guys who are so talented throughout the years have fallen off, and I think they probably lose love for the game as they get older, as their talent diminishes.
"You really have to love the sport to be good for a long time. You've got to get the work in in the summer. It has to be in you. You see the guys where it's not in them. They don't do things that they did that made them the best player. They stopped doing them."
