Boldly, earlier this summer, I predicted that Rondo would raise his defensive intensity, earning the first DPOY award for a point guard since The Glove. So far, I have to say, I'm not seeing it. Granted, one doesn't expect core veterans to really bear down on defense this early. They want to save that for the real games. But both Felton and McCalebb seemed to shred the Celtics' defense with ease so far this pre-season. Maybe that happened more when Rondo wasn't in there, but I'm convinced that Rondo is as important to the defense as he is to the offense. It just seems like it's been too easy for opposing guards to break down our defense on the dribble, and even if the Bigs cover this problem defensively, they are forced out of position and it's difficult to recover for rebounds.

Rondos defense this season is as an important as KGs in 2008. The backcourts defense as a whole is crucial.
