Thoughts on Darko's arrival

As most of you know, Darko has signed with the Celtics. Most fans are throwing up at the thought of Darko in a Celtics uniform. Is it a bad deal? I don't think so, but he's not great by any means. He'll always be remembered for being a bust. At the end of the day, the Celtics need to compete against the Lakers, and being big as possible is the key. They have two of the best bigs in the game, and the Celtics need guys that can foul them, or hopefully play solid defense on them for stretches. Thankfully Howard is a poor free throw shooter.
Darko may see playing time, or he may not. The Celtics have Wilcox, Sullinger, Collins, and Fab on the bench already. This is a true gang of bigs. As a veteran-minimum signing, Milicic is a low-risk addition. I don't see Darko playing over Wilcox, Sullingr, and Collins. But if a Big goes down. The Celtics have insurance. Again most fans are mad about this, but at the end of the day this deal is not going to break the Celtics. The Celtics are paying him peanuts in NBA money.

Darko here, Keyon gone? This is bad news. Very bad news.
Agreed. Dooling was out of the Celtics control, but that's the bad. How do you feel about Darko?
Darko? Well, I think it's one more question mark on a team just flooded with them. Bringing him on board in exchange for Dooling is a bad idea. But if he was willing to give up more money in order to give the NBA another shot, that speaks well for how motivated he is, so why not give him another shot?

I don't get it, C'slife. Why are you saying that Dooling was beyond the C's control? Yes, I know he says he is pursuing other interests, but that's comes off as face saving talk. What on earth do you expect him to say? Maybe it really was his decision and not Danny's. Hard to say. I doubt it, though.
Sometimes it is what it is. He's 32,and maybe his fmily is just more important, it makes sense. Danny snatched him up when he could. Danny had no reason to get rid of him, not for Darko. Danny still had roster spots to sign Darko.

Celticslifer, you say that sometime "it is what it is". What does that mean? How do you know "what it is"? Spending time with family is notorious boilerplate that everyone says when they get pushed out, or leave for some reason they don't want to specify, and you know this. I'm not telling you anything you don't know. And you also know that Danny has a long history of making very questionable moves. He does seem to become manic, and this at times seems to overcome his good sense.
This appears to be a step backwards for the team. I wish Dooling the best. But I think you have to wonder what really happened here. I hope he is going to join the coaching staff
Well ok then. Believe what the Masters tell you. I have nothing more to say to you.
I don't claim to know what happened in this situation, but at least I have the self respect to question it, to not just take what I am told at face value.

I agree with you on a lot Paul. But this one just seems like Dooling is done. Their was talk of this during last year, and during the playoffs. This guys is heavily into religion, and his family. I can see him walking away. I agree with you that people are driven off of teams, and they say the politically correct thing, but this time I don't see it.
