Sully on rebuild "When you have Celtics pride, you really don't have time to rebuild"

You go to love his mindset on this. He also said this about the rebuild,"But we still have Rondo." Sully was very vocal this Sunday morning and afternoon about the state of the team. I just hope he's able to take the next step, and if he can, then he's right. I believe he will take the next step, like I said this morning.
Sullinger looking to be in shape before camp
"When you have Celtics pride, you really don’t have time to rebuild," Sullinger said on Sunday in Orlando after lending his assistant coaching talents to the Boston summer squad as it lost its opener to the host Magic at the Amway Center. "You gotta play hard, you gotta play smart. I think, with the veterans we have like Gerald Wallace coming from Brooklyn... and we have Jeff [Green], everybody counts us out. But we still have [Rajon] Rondo. He won a title in ’08. He know what it takes... That rebuild word, we really don’t like it."
"Everyone’s talking about how we’re going to tank and how we’re going to do this," said Sullinger. "We just want to play and shut everybody up."

And I still think that Cowens might be worth consideration as a bigs coach. Cowens was perhaps th e protoype for a big who liked to stretch the offense with his jump shooting, and his ability to handle the ball away from the basket, as a kind of point center, all combined with a taste for mixing it up around the basket. These guys may represent a 'cowens type' of big - a hybrid.

Nice words from Sully. His reference to Rondo is particularly welcome, I think. "We still have Rondo". That is eloquent. And it is beginning to look like we may finally have some bigs who can operate around the rim, in Olnyk and Sullinger, guys who can also pop out for jumpers, guys who can get a lot of great looks from distance and near the rim, if the Cs finally design an offense around Rondo's ability to attack and break down a defense.

Wouldn't mind Cowens as an assistant with Stevens.

I wonder if Cowens would be too out of touch with the game today. But I think he grasped the art of being a Big in a unique way. He could play anywhere on the floor, yet he was possibly more aggressive about controlling and attacking the paint than any other center of his time; certainly he took a back seat to no one. I see a lot of that special combination in Sully, and it strikes me as very very rare. Consider KG, who is probably one of those who comes the closest; in reality, KG is more comfortable playing like Chris Bosh than he is banging down low, isn't he? Cowens was almost unique, I think, in his understanding that you could play away from the basket without compromising a taste for the battles in the pivot.
I think Cowens is the best role model for Sully and Kelly. I think any help would be great. Sullinger has some qualities like Cowens. They both are a bit undersized, and they play in and out. Plus they like to get nasty down low.
